The Magicians by Lev Grossman
Thus far, this is a pretty good book, though at times it’s a bit like if Harry Potter were a drunk sot with self-esteem issues and self-destructive tendencies. The part where they’re at Breakbill’s is pretty great. I loved it in fact. Afterwards, it starts to spiral, but I’m hoping it will get better by the end. It’s certainly a unique novel. There are many references to a fictional world called Fillory, which is obviously a play on Narnia- not particularly subtle.

The Whispers of the Fallen by J.D. Netto
I’m currently participating in J.D. Netto’s Instagram book tour with this. I’m going to try and finish this up by the weekend and post some pics on my Instagram feed! You can follow me @powder_and_page .

I’ll be interested to hear what you ultimately think of The Magicians. I really liked the magic school bits, until Quentin and his friends graduated, and then they all seemed to turn depressing, whiny hipsters 😦

I finished it today and despite the middle, post Brakebill’s section I liked it quite a lot.
