Stacking the Shelves: 4/16/22

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly (or in my case monthly) meme hosted by Reading Reality and it’s all about sharing the books you’ve added to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. You can include books you buy in a physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts, and of course audiobooks and ebooks!

Received for Review:

EEEEEE!!!!! Look at all these beauties!

Ordinary Monsters by J.M. Miro
Literally shrieked when I opened this package! This is a chonky book full of mystery and Victorian era children with supernatural powers. Many thanks to Flatiron Books for the ARC!

The Blood Trials by N.E. Davenport
If it sounds like Rome in Space, I will read it and The Blood Trials has me really pumped! This was released on April 5, so everyone can check it out now. Thanks to Harper Voyager for the ARC!

The Stardust Thief by Chelsea Abdullah
This book sounds absolutely awesome! The main character sells illegal magic and has a jinn bodyguard, and when she gets caught she has to go in search of a magical lamp with the sultan’s son. Thanks to Orbit for the ARC!

The Hunger of the Gods by John Gwynne
This was rightly one of the most anticipated sequels of the year – you can check out my review here!

In the Shadow of Lightning by Brian McClellan
I have no idea what to expect from this, but I trust Brian McClellan to write a stellar tale. Thanks to Tor for the eARC.

Night of the Raven, Dawn of the Dove by Rati Mehotra
It’s not often I pick up YA books anymore, but this one seems special. It’s set in an alternate medieval India and features a major betrayal early on – what fun! Thanks to Wednesday Books for the eARC!

The Dark Between the Trees by Fiona Barnett
HAUNTED FOREST!! Thanks to Solaris for hooking me up with Halloween reads in April!

Babel by R.F. Kuang
Possibly THE hottest release of 2022. And it’s in my hands. Thanks to Harper Voyager for making my daayyyy with an eARC!

Ordinary Monsters by J.M. Miro
Yes, I also got a physical copy, but that was 2 days after I got an eARC! Thanks Flatiron Books!

My Purchases:

I recently signed up for some book subscription boxes again – very exciting ones! The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake is from the Fairyloot Adult Subscription box, which is a book only box. I think subscriptions are currently sold out, but you can sign up for the waitlist. The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie is from The Broken Binding’s new special edition subscription box. You can get more info on this and the mini subscription here! I also picked up the newest cookbook by Tieghan Gerard from Half Baked Harvest – the recipes look delish!

Adult SFF books don’t get enough affordable special editions, so I was really excited for Fairyloot’s adult book-only subscription box. They always do lovely editions – this has a cover with a white color way, foiling on the hardcover, and cool sprayed page edges. It’s also signed and has lovely endpaper art! The April book is going to be The City of Dusk by Tara Sim (which was good!), and May is going to be Book of Night by Holly Black.

My first book from The Broken Binding subscription arrived safely from across the Atlantic! It has gorgeous foiling and designs on the page edges AND IT’S SIGNED!! The packaging was beautifully done (and wrapped in plenty of bubble wrap). April and May will feature Before They Are Hanged and The Last Argument of Kings and when put together the book page edges will feature a complete design. These basically don’t exist in hardcover anymore, so this was an incredible opportunity to get a hardcover set. The next series up is The Winnowing Flame trilogy by Jen Williams.

I chilled out on the ebook/audiobook purchases this time around so I only have four to share with you this month! I picked up Moon Over Soho, Kingdoms of Death, Gallant, and A Game of Fate

  2. Wow, fantastic haul! I also go an eARC of Ordinary Monsters, but I have to say I’m a little jealous of that physical ARC😉 And The Atlas Six edition is gorgeous! I may have to look into that book only subscription😁 Enjoy!
