Stacking the Shelves: 4/15/23

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly (or in my case monthly) meme hosted by Reading Reality and it’s all about sharing the books you’ve added to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. You can include books you buy in a physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts, and of course audiobooks and ebooks!

Received for Review:

Orbit kindly sent me an ARC of The Blighted Stars by Megan E. O’Keefe and finished copies of Paradise-1 by David Wellington and The Bone Shard War by Andrea Stewart! I recently finished The Bone Shard War and it was great – full review coming soon.

The Death I Gave Him by Em X. Liu
I was sold at “locked-room Hamlet retelling”. I love the concept and the electric neon cover!

A Study in Drowning by Ava Reid
Rival students, tales of a Fairy King, and a musty old manor by the sea practically guarantees an atmospheric good time. Plus, the cover is stunning – if you look at a full size version the little details are incredible!

Dirty Lying Dragons by Sabrina Blackburry
I shockingly loved Dirty Lying Faeries last year and I’m hoping this companion novel is just as good! Also, there are dragons and witches.

The Queen of Days by Greta Kelly
I’ve already featured this as a Can’t Wait Wednesday post, so I don’t have much more to add. I think this is going to be an amazing book!

The Traitor by Anthony Ryan
This is a series I am very much looking forward to wrapping up – in a good way! I loved the first two books and I think this is going to be a violent and possibly heart-wrenching conclusion.

Thanks to Harper Voyager, Orbit Books, W by Wattpad Books, HarperTeen, and Rebellion Publishing for the eARCs!

My Purchases:

I had a pile of subscription box books arrive all at once in the few weeks since my last Stacking the Shelves post! There are some truly gorgeous editions this time around and you can see further details below. Lies We Sing to the Sea by Sarah Underwood and The Red Scholar’s Wake by Aliette de Bodard are the Illumicrate picks for March 2023 and December 2022, respectively. Next we have the Fairyloot editions of The Foxglove King by Hannah Whitten, which was the March 2023 book and The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty, which was the February 2023 book.

After nearly a year’s wait, I finally received my copy of Project Hail Mary from Subterranean Press. The quality is spectacular, but quite frankly I like the Fairyloot and Illumicrate book designs better! I think I’ll finish up my collection of the Red Rising books from Subterranean Press, but those may be the last books I purchase from this publisher.

I’ve picked up just a few audiobooks and ebooks since last haul. Bow Before the Elf Queen and A History of Fear were both Audible daily deals I picked up recently and A House With Good Bones has been on my TBR since I saw it existed. As for ebooks… well, we’ve got The Frugal Wizard’s Handbook for Surviving Medieval England and The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher (currently on sale for 1.99!).

  1. Amazing haul! Those Fairy Loot and Illumicrate books are stunning. I’m not really buying Sub Press books anymore, they have become so freaking expensive, like their prices have doubled in the last few years! I really want to get a copy of A History of Fear since I keep seeing it everywhere.
