Stacking the Shelves: 11/25/23

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly (or in my case monthly) meme hosted by Reading Reality and it’s all about sharing the books you’ve added to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. You can include books you buy in a physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts, and of course audiobooks and ebooks!

Received for Review:

Evocation by S.T. Gibson
Hands down one of the most exciting ARCs to get my hands on! I love when publishers do a fancy ARC with lots of fun details and I really can’t wait to crack this one open and get to reading. Thanks to Angry Robot for sending me an ARC!

Crown of Starlight by Cait Corrain
This is Ariadne and Dionysus in space and I’m here for it and this stunning cover.

Lore of the Wilds by Analeigh Sbrana
While a fantasy romance with faeries isn’t groundbreaking, I am completely hooked on them. This one has a beautiful cover and THERE’S AN ENCHANTED LIBRARY!

Immortal Pleasures by V. Castro
An Aztec vampire in the modern world looking for love.  I was obviously on a romantically inclined kick when I was requesting books recently.

The Witchwood Knot by Olivia Atwater
Atwater continues to build out the world she created with the Regency Faerie Tales series with the first installment in the Victorian Faerie Tales. I have a review coming on Tuesday, so keep an eye out!

What Feasts at Night by T. Kingfisher
The first book in this series creeped me out, but I do love T. Kingfisher’s books so I’m back for round two!

An Education in Malice
Yes, another S.T. Gibson book coming out in 2024! This is a dark academia, with (I’m guessing) a rivals to lovers theme.

Bless Your Heart by Lindy Ryan
I admit, I was intrigued by the cover and then I was further intrigued by the synopsis, which just sounds plain fun. I absolutely need funeral directors stabbing vampires.

The Trials of Empire by Richard Swan
The long awaited conclusion to the Empire of the Wolf series is in my hands!! I cannot wait to see if this wraps up as masterfully as it began.

The Haunting of Hecate Cavendish by Paula Brackston
I just featured this in my Can’t Wait Wednesday post and lo’, my request just got approved on NetGalley. This is another book with magic, secret libraries, and mythological creatures.

Thanks to Del Rey Books, Harper Voyager, Starwatch Press, Tor Nightfire, Redhook, Minotaur Books, Orbit Books, and Tor Books for all the amazing eARCs!

My Purchases:

I uh, don’t usually acquire this many books in a single month, especially special editions. First off, I did purchase two standard editions – Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros, and Traitor of Redwinter by Ed McDonald. Next up we have the final special project novel, The Sunlit Man by Brandon Sanderson which is beautiful. I also snagged a really spectacular hardcover copy of Paladin’s Grace by T. Kingfisher from Fox & Wit – I’m hoping they do the rest of the series, but it was just picked up by Orbit UK so I’m not sure if that will change things.

The FairyLoot editions of Iron Gold and Dark Age by Pierce Brown also arrived. These are some seriously chunky books and quite frankly, Dark Age is so big I’m not sure the binding will hold up long term unless I’m careful with it. Next up is the Daphne Press edition of The Hunting Moon by Susan Dennard, which was a great second installment and the quality and art is fantastic. The November FairyLoot adult subscription box also arrived and the featured book was Sword Catcher by Cassandra Clare, who I had sworn to never read again…. but I’ll give her adult debut a go.

And last up, we have the hardcover editions of the Riyria Revelations by Michael J. Sullivan, which I ordered in July 2022! The quality seems great and while they don’t have fancy endpapers or interior artwork, this is a series that I love and it isn’t available in hardcover anymore. I do wish these had Marc Simonetti cover art though!

I’d also like to give a shout out to this beautiful alternate dust jacket from Bluelyboo that I had pre-ordered! It’s truly stunning and has a nice matte texture and lovely gold foils all over. This is so much prettier than the standard cover art and I will most definitely be ordering these covers for the rest of the series. Bluelyboo has a few other alternate dust jackets available as well as some other bookish merch like pins and bookmarks.

  1. Awesome haul! I was approved for Bless Your Heart and The Haunting Of Hecate Cavendish recently too, and Evocation and An Education in Malice are two of my most anticipated books of 2024!
