2024 Reading Goals

I don’t think I’ve actually done a Reading Goals post before on my blog, but each year I have in mind some things I’d like to accomplish. This year I’d like to share my goals and chat with my readers about their individual goals for the year too!

  1. Goodreads Reading Challenge
    • This is the biggest and most basic goal of them all – I’d like to read 85 books in 2024. I’ve kept this goal the same for the last couple years because it’s easily obtainable in a good year, but if something comes up or I go through the worst reading slump ever, I still think I could hit that mark. I do like to see how much I can surpass that number each year too!
  2. Limit ARC Requests
    • Possibly the toughest goal I’m setting for myself in 2024 is limiting the amount of ARCs I request or accept. There are so many tempting options, especially since I’m fortunate to be on several mailing lists and auto-approvals on NetGalley. I’ve already acquired 24 ARCs, several of which I’ve already read, but going overboard does make it harder to accomplish my next goal.
  3. Mood Read More!
    • Yes, yes, I can mood read the ARCs I get and I have been trying to do that more because my opinion is more favorable if it doesn’t feel like a task to read. Reading is a joy and a hobby, so it should never feel like a chore! I have so many backlist books I’d love to get around to and there are so many cool books coming out each week that I’d love to pick up on a whim without worrying about getting behind or having to schedule them in too!
  4. Read More Self Published Books
    • There are so many cool self published books that I just haven’t been able to squeeze into my reading schedule and I’d like to prioritize these more in 2024. There’s a certain amount of joy in finding an amazing book that’s been underhyped and not yet been scooped up by a big traditional publisher. And then I can always say “I liked it before it was cool”.
  5. Make Time for Re-Reads
    • I love re-visiting old favorites and 2023 presented me the opportunity to do that with the Red Rising series and most recently, the Crescent City books. Here’s a few more series I’d like to re-visit in 2024!
      • The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson – with Wind and Truth being released December 6, 2024, I’ll have the whole year to re-read the first four books.
      • Throne of Glass and/or A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas – the impending release of House of Flame and Shadow has me going down some crazy fan theory rabbit holes and it’s made me want to re-read BOTH of these series!
      • City of Stairs by Robert Jackson Bennett – The Tainted Cup reminded me how much I love RBJ’s mystery stories and this was an amazing book.
      • Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor – I honestly forgot how much I loved this series and would love to see if it stands the test of time and my increasing pickiness in young adult books.
      • Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson – The Broken Binding is doing hardcover editions of MBotF in 2024 and I will be purchasing them. Makes it the perfect time to revisit the Bridgeburners and shed a few tears.

  1. I like making goals posts too, and we are in agreement with the first three! I’m setting my Goodreads goal for 75 and secretly aim for 100. I just like seeing I’m “six books ahead” or whatever, lol. And I’ve been turning down review books a lot more lately and trying to stay away from Netgalley. I’m planning on reading some books I own next year so I have to make space for them😁

    1. Yes, that’s sort of how I do my Goodreads goal. I like feeling like I’m ahead most of the year. Definitely need to get the ARC requests under control so I can read all the unread books I have 😬

  2. 24 ARCs already? Wow, you’ve made me feel like I’ve done great on my own goal to limit myself. I’ll be doing (fingers crossed) one of these soon myself. Many of the same things—prioritize more TBR, rereads… um basically 2-5 of yours 😅😂 Good luck!! I believe in us!
