Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly themed post first created by The Broke and the Bookish in 2010 and is now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
This week’s theme features a list of authors that I’d love to have a new book from, whether that author is alive, dead, or just isn’t publishing quickly enough for my reading speed!
- Scott Lynch – I’m eagerly awaiting more news on The Thorn of Emberlain, but there are apparently three novellas set in the Gentleman Bastards’ world that will be coming out before then. The last update I’ve seen about this was from early 2023.
- Maggie Stiefvater – She is apparently working on her first adult novel and I’m so excited for more news on that! I dearly love the Raven Cycle, but I don’t jive as much with young adult books these days.
- Rebecca Ross – I have adored every book from this author and I will read anything she publishes.
- Laini Taylor – Yes, I just said I don’t jive as much with YA as I used to, but if Laini Taylor releases a new book, whether YA or Adult, I will check it out. Her writing and story telling abilities are out of this world.
- Brian McClellan – I am eagerly awaiting the release of the sequel to In the Shadow of Lightning. I completely loved this world and the magic system, plus the ending left me reeling!
- Brian Staveley – I’ve been waiting on a sequel to The Empire’s Ruin for 3 years 😦 The only news I could find (a Reddit thread referencing a Twitter comment) indicated that he was still working on it.
- Margaret Rogerson – This is another author who typically writes YA, but I have loved each and every one of her releases! I really wanted a sequel to her most recent novel, Vespertine, but I faintly recall reading that it wasn’t going to happen. I’d be perfectly happy with any new books from her though!
- Pierce Brown – Every Red Rising fan out there is impatiently awaiting the arrival of Red God, the final book in the saga.
- Naomi Novik – In 2022 it was announced that she was working on a new epic fantasy series, with the first book being called Folly. There hasn’t been any other news since then.
- R.F. Kuang – Kuang has a new book called Katabasis coming out in August 2025 and it sounds amazing! It’s briefly described as ‘Two academic rivals from Cambridge must travel to hell to rescue the soul of their advisor’.
*Not-so-honorable mentions to Patrick Rothfuss and George R.R. Martin who will likely never publish the sequels that their fans actually want.

I haven’t seen Maggie Stiefvater’s name around in years! I had forgotten about her, lol. I’d love to see an adult book from her.

Naomi Novik has a short story/novella collection coming out in the fall, but I don’t know about anything full-length. And RF Kuang… I dunno. I didn’t like either of her last two books—I’m not sure I’ll read her next one at all:/

I had almost forgotten the new series by Brian McClellan, and your post reminded me that it’s been quite a long time: hopefully something new will come soon…

She’s been working on it since 2023, so I have my fingers crossed for a 2025 release 😅
