Stacking the Shelves: 7/27/24

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly (or in my case monthly) meme hosted by Reading Reality and it’s all about sharing the books you’ve added to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. You can include books you buy in a physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts, and of course audiobooks and ebooks!

Received for Review:

A Circle of Uncommon Witches by Paige Crutcher
A story about a witch cursed to never find true love sets out to break the curse. I do love a good witchy romance!

A Tide of Black Steel by Anthony Ryan
Can’t go wrong with Anthony Ryan, especially since (I think) this newest book is set in the same world as The Pariah. This is set in Ascarlia and is inspired by Norse mythology,

The Fury of the Gods by John Gwynne
This is one of my most anticipated series finales and just LOOK at that cover! I do love a good Norse inspired fantasy, but it’s still surprising to see two on my reading list so close together.

At the Bottom of the Garden by Camilla Bruce
This is about a woman who sounds like a serial killer and now she has to take in her nieces, one of which can unfortunately see the dead.

Lightfall by Ed Crocker
I can’t say no to a book comp’d to Richard Swan’s The Justice of Kings!  It’s about vampires, but also has werewolves and sorcerers for good measure.

Carl’s Doomsday Scenario by Matt Dinniman
I weirdly loved Dungeon Crawler Carl, so I made room on my TBR for the sequel, Carl’s Doomsday Scenario. They’re so compulsively readable!

Guillotine by Delilah S. Dawson
This is a novella about a bunch of rich people who get overthrown and murdered by their servants. This isn’t usually my jam, but the synopsis was interesting.

Waywarden by S.A. Harian
I am still thinking about Briardark, the first book in this series over a year later. It was so weird and I cannot wait to read this! I just realized it was recently released, so I will be reading and reviewing soon!

Thanks to St. Martin’s Griffin, Orbit, Del Rey Books, St. Martin’s Press, Ace, Titan Books, and Compass & Fern for the review copies!

My Purchases:

I have two lovely FairyLoot editions to show of this month! First is the June book, The God and the Gumiho by Sophie Kim and then the July book, which is The Night Ends with Fire by K.X. Song. Both are gorgeous and have  digitally sprayed edges, foiling on the endpapers, and reversible dust jackets!

I briefly mentioned in a Currently Reading post that I am doing a Dark Academia Read-A-Thon and thought I would share the books I picked up for that! This is just a personal goal because I really like this subgenre but I mostly read fantasy dark academia and haven’t branched out to the more general fiction options. Many of these are super popular and I want to see if they’re any good!

I picked up Special Topics in Calamity Physics by Marisha Pessl, In My Dreams I Hold a Knife by Ashley Winstead, If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio, The Maidens by Alex Michaelides, The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, and The Secret History by Donna Tartt.
