Synopsis:
From the author of Dirty Lying Faeries and Dirty Lying Dragons comes a new installment in the Enchanted Fates series in which a young woman involuntarily finds herself in the company of a rogue pack of wolves, with plenty of troubles of their own.
When Juniper stumbles across a small group of strangers during her morning power walk, she jumps in to help an injured member of the party. However, her act of kindness backfires when she’s savagely bitten by what turns out to be a very ill werewolf.
The pack’s acting leader, Dom, gives June a choice: she can return to the human world post-transformation or she can join the pack. Either way, she’ll never be the same again.
June will have to decide if she wants to face her new reality and take her place with Dom in the pack or risk tearing everything apart.
Yes, I’m back with another review of a book in this very fun fantasy romance series of loosely linked books. They can be read as standalones, but characters from previous books tend to show up and it’s a little more fun if you have the context.
Dirty Lying Wolves starts off with quite the bang. Our main character Juniper (June for short) is out for a walk and stumbles across a group of men that seem to be threatening a naked woman, so she jumps in and tries to help. She’s going to pepper spray them and the woman partially shifts into a wolf and bites her! Until this point, June had no idea there were supernatural beings like werewolves and now she’s stuck with this group of strangers because she’s going to become a werewolf herself. Talk about your life changing in an instant!
The most unrealistic part about this entire book is how chill June is about the whole situation. She has bills to pay, a concerned roommate, and plans to become a physical therapist that are suddenly irrelevant because she’s going to a remote village in Canada to live and learn with a werewolf pack. Oh, and her companions are rogues who are coming home with their tails tucked between their legs. Or so it seems – they’re actually planning to take their pack back from the wolf who killed their parents a decade ago.
This book was loads of fun and provided some extremely amusing imagery. I mean, werewolves shift and in this world at least, clothes don’t shift too so there’s lots of casual nudity. Not just the young folks, but the old ones too. I was delighted that June and her love interest Dominic were well developed, though they both have quite the savior complex. The pack politics was interesting and I liked that the book focuses so much on June getting oriented within this whole new society.
Overall, this wasn’t my favorite installment in the series because I didn’t enjoy the plot quite as much as the first and second books. I did really like Juniper and Dom, so that did balance things out a bit. If you’re in the market for a fun, light read or you’re a huge fan of werewolf romance, I’d definitely recommend Dirty Lying Wolves.
