Stacking the Shelves: 5/24/25

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly (or in my case monthly) meme hosted by Reading Reality and it’s all about sharing the books you’ve added to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. You can include books you buy in a physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts, and of course audiobooks and ebooks!

Received for Review:

The Grimoire Grammar School Parent Teacher Association by Caitlin Rozakis
I had such fun with Dreadful last year that I knew I wanted to check out Caitlin Rozakis’s latest! This sounds like even more fun, following a family with a recently turned werewolf daughter as they navigate magical society. Thanks to Titan Books for the finished copy.

Modern Divination by Isabel Agajanian
I was undecided about accepting this since the reviews are sort of middling, but I liked the synopsis, so decided to give it a chance. Hopefully I’ll love it! Thanks to Tor for the finished copy!

The Devils by Joe Abercrombie
Yes, I already have the Broken Binding edition, but the design for the regular ol’ US edition was also pretty damn cool so I accepted a copy from the publisher. Many thanks to Tor for sending this over!

Ascension by S.T. Gibson
I never knew I needed a character with a heavy dose of Catholic guilt on top of a bit of megalomania, but Ascension has that in spades. I’ve already read this and loved it – keep an eye out for the review sometime in June!

Spellcaster by Jaymin Eve
A romantasy with an academia setting I simply couldn’t pass up. This sounds like a lot of fun and the early ratings are pretty good!

Atlas of Unknowable Things by McCormick Templeman
This is a horror novel following a professor joining a think-tank in an isolated estate, studying the occult.

The Last Soul Among Wolves by Melissa Caruso
I couldn’t resist picking up the second installment of The Echo Archives after the first ended up being amazing! Can’t wait to return to this strange world.

Thanks to Angry Robot, Canary Street Press, St. Martin’s Press, and Orbit for the eARCs!

My Purchases:

I’ve been busy with bookish purchases lately, but first I’m going to show off the gorgeous editions from The Broken Binding. First up, we have this spectacular edition of The Devils, which has some truly incredible cover art, sprayed edges, and end papers! Next up, we have the May subscription book – Magician by Raymond E. Feist. This is again a stunning alternate cover and it has wraparound art on the hardcover as well along with the usual sprayed edges and endpaper art AND interior illustrations.

I also picked up a deluxe edition of Shield of Sparrows, which I absolutely loved (review HERE!). I’ve also decided to check out some non-fiction works after being influenced by @kistreadsbooks on Instagram. I picked up A Fatal Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum by Emma Southon, which is all about crime, punishment, and killing in ancient Rome. I also picked up SPQR by Mary Beard, which is supposed to be a fantastic look at the history of ancient Rome. I figured, what better topic to check out than one I love incorporated into sci-fi and fantasy? Lastly, I snagged a copy of Princesses Behaving Badly by Linda Rodriguez McRobbie, which sounded both fun and educational but didn’t arrive in time for a picture feature in today’s haul.
