Stacking the Shelves: 12/27/25

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly (or in my case monthly) meme hosted by Reading Reality and it’s all about sharing the books you’ve added to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. You can include books you buy in a physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts, and of course audiobooks and ebooks!

Received for Review:

I’ve received several 2026 releases from Orbit lately, which I’m pretty excited about, including The Book of Fallen Leaves, Nightshade & Oak, and Sister Svangerd and the Not Quite Dead.

Half City by Kate Golden
A dark academia romantasy that had a cover that I just couldn’t resist. This follows a demon hunter going to an academy to hone her skills.

No Man’s Land by Richard Morgan
A WWI-era fantasy where a war veteran battles an ancient fae race encroaching on human lands. This sounds really cool, though the early reviews are lukewarm.

Enchanting the Fae Queen by Stephanie Burgis
The second book in the Queens of Villainy series follows fae queen Lorelei and the handsome general she’s kidnapped. It’s about time the lady does the kidnapping!

The Arcane Arts by S.D. Coverly
This is another dark academia with arcane arts, following a professor and  grad student who begin studying the magic of compulsion. I expect this will get both dark and dirty fairly quickly.

Foundling Fathers by Meg Elison
Though this is a June 2026 release, I’ve already zipped right through it. I read a few pages and then couldn’t put it down thanks to the fascinating premise.

Hopeless Necromantic by Shiloh Briar
Another June release I couldn’t help but to pick up early, though this one hasn’t worked out quite as well as the previous book… This is a story about a demon, a necromancer, and a walking, talking skeleton named Benjamin.

Thanks to Ace, Del Rey, Bramble, Tachyon Publishing, and Orbit for the eARCs.

My Purchases:

I have a whole pile of pretty editions from The Broken Binding that have accumulated since my last Stacking the Shelves post in October. We have Kings of the Wyld and Bloody Rose by Nicholas Eames, All That We See or Seem by Ken Liu, and House of Chains, Midnight Tides, and The Bonehunters by Steven Erikson. Each of these are really beautiful and of lovely quality.
