‘And I Jack, The Pumpkin King’! – a cover for Halloween
This week’s pick is The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving.
THE WINNER IS:
For a book with over 600 editions listed on Goodreads, there sure are some hideous covers. This is my favorite overall and it’s a tie-in edition for the movie featuring Johnny Depp from like, the 90s which was actually a good movie. The cover on the far right is my second favorite because it features the stereotypical pumpkin-head toting Prussian and I like the font. I’m just going to close my eyes and pretend the others don’t exist. As a side note, this is one of my favorite Halloween movies/stories…
Of course, Scooby Doo and the gang had to face off against ol’ pumpkin head. This legitimately terrified me as a wee child, but I’ve never liked scary stuff.
The Sleepy Hollow movie (mentioned above) was also super creepy, but mostly ended up being about a witchy woman in the end. He strikes an imposing figure sans head, huh? Also, what a majestic horse.
An even more classic version- Disney produced a surprisingly terrifying version of the horseman and Ichabod really shouldn’t have stood a chance. Did you know this was narrated by Bing Crosby?
“For a book with over 600 editions listed on Goodreads, there sure are some hideous covers.” I had to laugh at this. You’re right though, I’m not sure I feel strongly about any of these, but the movie edition is nice.

Great pick. I had just looked at the covers on Goodreads the other day after watching the Tim Burton “Sleepy Hollow” movie, so I totally agree, there are lots of bad covers out there.
