Stacking the Shelves: 3/25/23

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly (or in my case monthly) meme hosted by Reading Reality and it’s all about sharing the books you’ve added to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. You can include books you buy in a physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts, and of course audiobooks and ebooks!

Received for Review:

As always, Orbit is generous and sent over finished copies of The Foxglove King by Hannah Whitten and Infinity Gate by M.R. Carey. I also received a surprise ARC of The Judas Blossom by Stephen Aryan from Angry Robot Books, which will be released July 11, 2023.

Charming by Jade Linwood
I am all for a story about a rogue, swindling Prince Charming character and the ladies who are out for revenge. Also, what a gorgeous cover design!

The Book That Wouldn’t Burn by Mark Lawrence
As most fantasy readers, I do love a good book filled with even more books. Especially if there’s a magical, endless library.

The Will of The Many by James Islington
A new James Islington series is very exciting news and I’m delighted to have my hands on an eARC, so I can see what this new tale is all about. I know there’s a magic academy and student out for vengeance. It’s a chonker, coming in at almost 700 pages.

Witch King by Martha Wells
I’ve only read this author’s Murderbot books, so I’m really excited to check out her newest fantasy book.

Thornhedge by T. Kingfisher
I’m not sure I can wait until August to actually read this because I adore T. Kingfisher’s stories so much! This is a teensy little book, coming in at only 128 pages, but I’m sure it will be full of heart, humor, and adventure.

Ink Blood Sister Scribe by Emma Torzs
A story about two sisters tasked with guarding their families library of magical books. The synopsis for this really snagged by attention and I can’t wait to read it!

Gods of the Wyrdwood by R.J. Barker
Yessss!! First of all, cool cover, cool title. Second, I can’t wait to read about the chosen one who got bypassed by someone else!

Many thanks to Orbit Books, Tor Books, Ace, Saga Press, Solaris, and William Morrow for the eARCs!

My Purchases:

Godkiller by Hannah Kaner was one my most anticipated releases of 2023, but was only being released in the UK. I was SO happy that it was the Illumicrate January book pick! It’s a beautiful edition with art on the naked hardcover, cool digitally sprayed edges, and foiled endpapers. The dust jacket appears to be just a darker version of the original colorway.

I’ve also got the January 2023 Broken Binding subscription book, which is Best Served Cold by Joe Abercrombie. This is a gorgeous edition as well, particularly the sprayed edges! Unfortunately, the next two books are delayed thanks to printing issues with those sprayed edges but I’d prefer good quality over something subpar!

I’ve been totally knocking out audiobooks in the last month or so, though they’ve mostly been shorter reads. I picked up Foxglove Summer and The Hanging Tree by Ben Aaronovitch, Wicked Beauty by Katee Robert, Episode Thirteen by Craig DiLouie, Sea Storm and Sea Castle by Andrew Mayne, Paladin’s Hope by T. Kingfisher, and Written in Red by Anne Bishop. I’ve picked up just a couple ebooks – Mountains Made of Glass by Scarlett St. Clair is  a new release and I’ll have a review up soon, while The Library at Mount Char was a daily deal that I’ve wanted to read for years since hearing about how weird it was.
