Stacking The Shelves is a weekly (or in my case monthly) meme hosted by Reading Reality and it’s all about sharing the books you’ve added to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. You can include books you buy in a physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts, and of course audiobooks and ebooks!
It has been TWO MONTHS since I’ve done one of these posts, so the haul is going to be ridiculous. All the new Fall/Winter 2023 and even some 2024 books are starting to show up in my reading queue and I’m excited to share them all with you!
Received for Review:
The Blighted Stars by Megan E. O’Keefe
I am actually very excited to get to this book, but I think I’m actually going to save it for SciFi month in November this year! At that point, the sequel will already be out too so I can read both consecutively!
The Traitor by Anthony Ryan
This was a fantastic conclusion to the Covenant of Steel trilogy. You can check out my review HERE.
The Hexologists by Josiah Bancroft
I’m looking forward to checking out the start of a new series from Josiah Bancroft. I’m hoping his particular brand of weird works for me this time! I also snagged an eARC from NetGalley before the physical ARC arrived.
Thanks to the wonderful folks at Orbit for always hooking me up with the latest and greatest new reads!

An Inheritance of Magic by Benedict Jacka
I’ve never read this author before, but I love the sound of this and I haven’t read a ton of urban fantasy recently. Basically, rich people can have access to magic and the main character gets drawn into this dangerous world.
The Mystery at Dunvegan Castle by T.L. Huchu
I weirdly enjoy this series and look forward to each new installment. This time Ropa is at a magical conference and must solve a locked room mystery.
The Olympian Affair by Jim Butcher
Wow, it’s been like 8 years since the first book came out so I’m delighted to have this in my hands! I will most definitely be doing a re-read of The Aeronaut’s Windlass first because I remember nothing.
The Hunting Moon by Susan Dennard
I LOVED the first book in this series and I am so looking forward to this! I’m keeping my eye out for the Illumicrate special edition sale so it matches my copy of The Luminaries.
Labyrinth’s Heart by M.A. Carrick
Labyrinth’s Heart is the final installment in the Rook & Rose trilogy and it’s what I’m currently reading. I love it so far!
Thanks to Ace, Tor, Tor Teen, and Orbit Books for the eARCs!

The Midnight Kingdom by Tara Sim
Yet another sequel I’ve just been waiting to get in my hands! This is coming out in August, so I’ll be reading and reviewing it very soon.
The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett
I literally SQUEALED with delight when the publisher emailed me a link for this! RBJ writes some of the most unique stories and this sounds like a remarkable mystery.
Curious Tides by Pascale Lacelle
Give me all the magic school dark academia vibes!! This is one of my most anticipated books of Fall/Winter 2023. Magic, secret societies, and a mysterious death make this the perfect haunting read for the Halloween season.
Murder Road by Simone St. James
I don’t read a ton of thrillers, but Simone St. James has been on my radar for a few years now so I jumped at the opportunity to read her upcoming release.
Two Twisted Crowns by Rachel Gillig
I probably won’t wait until October to read this (unless I get swamped with other stuff). The first book in this series was an instant favorite. There’s a cool magic system, a love interest, and a girl with a monster living in her head.
Many thanks to Orbit, Del Rey, Margaret K. McElderry, and Berkley for the eARCs!
My Purchases:

I’ve gotten quite a few subscription box books in since my last post at the end of May. The Bone Ship’s Wake from The Broken Binding is a stunning addition (and edition!). Yumi and the Nightmare Painter is possibly the most beautiful of all of Sanderson’s secret project books – I mean look at those interior illustrations! The Curse of Saints by Kate Dramis and Immortal Longings by Chloe Gong are the FairyLoot May and July features (I skipped June).
I also picked up some books during the Prime Day sale! My husband has been wanting some nice editions of Tolkein’s books, so I bought The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion. I also picked up Alone With You in the Ether, The Lost Metal, and Hell Bent each for about $10.

Lol those were my exact thoughts on getting the Olympian Affair too! My friend says all she remembers are talking cats, but I don’t even have that much…

I remember the talking cats! And thinking that it reminded me of Final Fantasy XII!

As usual, your subscription box books are stunning! I’m so curious about The Olympian Affair too, I may have to do a reread of the first book since it’s been so long.
