Stacking the Shelves: 8/26/23

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly (or in my case monthly) meme hosted by Reading Reality and it’s all about sharing the books you’ve added to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. You can include books you buy in a physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts, and of course audiobooks and ebooks!

Received for Review:

I’ve started getting more physical books again because somehow I’ve been added to a few more publicity lists! I’m certainly not complaining, as it’s very exciting to get book mail especially if it’s a surprise.

I received so many finished copies from Orbit this week, including The Phoenix King by Aparna Verma, The Midnight Kingdom by Tara Sim, Labyrinth’s Heart by M.A. Carrick, The Fractured Dark by Megan E. O’Keefe, and The Hexologists by Josiah Bancroft. You can check out my review of The Midnight Kingdom HERE and my review of Labyrinth’s Heart HERE!

I also received a very exciting ARC of The Olympian Affair from Ace, which I plan on picking up after I re-read The Aeronaut’s Windlass.

A lovely finished copy of Vampires of El Norte by Isabel Canas also arrived this week! I think this will make a great read for Halloween, though I’ve heard it’s a little heavier on the romance and lighter on the horror than one would expect. Thanks to Berkley for the finished copy.

I was also recently surprised with a publicity box with advanced copies of the two upcoming October Daye novels, Sleep No More and The Innocent Sleep. I haven’t read any of the prior books in this series, so I may back up and try out the first book. Thanks to DAW for this cool surprise!

Uncanny Vows by Laura Anne Gilman
I completely adored the first book, Uncanny Times, last year and can’t wait to see what the Harker siblings and Bother the hellhound get up to in this installment. It’s basically the perfect fall read.

The Dragons of Deepwood Fen by Bradley P. Beaulieu
I’m looking forward to Beaulieu’s next foray into epic fantasy, particularly since it involves DRAGONS! Also, there are inquisitors teaming up with thieves to stop a cult from reawakening a demigod.

A Fate Inked in Blood by Danielle L. Jensen
This is a Norse inspired story following a woman who wants to escape her husband and become a warrior. I thought The Bridge Kingdom was a great story and I think I might like this book even better!

The Fake Mate by Lana Ferguson
Sometimes a paranormal romance about werewolf doctors really just hits the spot. I got approved for this and read it the same day even though it’s not out until December (great sick day read!). The cutesy cover belies how spicy this actually was.

Thanks to Gallery/Saga Press, DAW, Del Rey Books, and Berkley for the eARCs!

My Purchases:

After last month’s mega haul, I’ve toned things down! The only physical book I’ve received is the August FairyLoot book, Forged by Blood by Ehigbor Okosun. This is a beautiful edition, with a gorgeous hardcover, sprayed page edges, and art on the endpapers.

    1. Lolol, I almost skipped the August box after I saw your review of Forged by Blood… but the September book was even lower rated so I skipped it instead! Hopefully I’ll have better luck with it!

  2. Fantastic haul! Surprise book mail is always fun to receive. I’m so excited to start reading A Fate Inked in Blood! I need to read one other book before I do, so soon!
