Top Ten Tuesday: Books that Would Make Awesome Movies or TV Series

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly themed post first created by The Broke and the Bookish in 2010 and is now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s theme is supposed to be about movies or tv shows that would make awesome books, but since most of the ones I like are already based on books, I’m doing the opposite!

  • Red Rising by Pierce Brown – I think it goes without saying that this would be a riveting tv or movies series. It starts off with some classic Hunger Games themed competition and then expands into a bloody damn good space opera.
  • The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman – What a delight it would be to see this gang of elderly folks investigating a series of murders! Each book would be perfect for a season.
  • The Justice of Kings by Richard Swan – I would absolutely die to see an adaptation of this. Not only are the characters memorable, but the scenery of the afterlife the Justices visit would be an incredible and horrifying visual!
  • The Pariah by Anthony Ryan – I think this could really be the next Game of Thrones. It’s relatively low magic and the medieval setting and all the battles would be exciting to watch even for the folks who claim to not enjoy fantasy.
  • Empire of Shadows by Jacquelyn Benson – This is so new to me I haven’t even had a chance to review it yet, but it was so good! It’s set in Belize and reminded me of a blend of The Mummy and Indiana Jones.
  • Episode Thirteen by Craig DiLouie – This would make an incredible found footage style horror movie! The entire premise is that a team of ghost hunters are filming at a location that’s actually supposed to be haunted and they get into some creepy shit.
  • Rubicon by J.S. Dewes – Perfect for fans of Edge of Tomorrow, and it happened to be one of my favorite reads of 2023.
  • Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo – Since this is set at Yale (mostly), I feel like it would be fairly easy to do an adaptation of AND it would be a great blend of mystery, secret societies, and dark academia vibes.
  • Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney – A good ol’ locked room style mystery with a supernatural twist would make this perfect for a movie adaptation. It’s also a standalone, so hopefully there wouldn’t be any unnecessary sequels.
  • Priest of Bones by Peter McLean – This is like Peaky Blinders in a low fantasy world. It would be dark, gritty, and full of bloody gang politics.
