I was so, so excited to read this book and review it for you guys- the title was catchy, the cover snazzy, and the synopsis was enticing- but I was disappointed when I started reading. The story was just not for me. Now, don’t get the idea that this story isn’t for anyone, I’m certain that there are people that will enjoy it, but I’m not one of them. It was too much of a spoof on spies and evil villains for my taste- maybe a younger set of readers (teenagers, perhaps?) would enjoy this more. There were so many acronyms, and some of them were clever, but after the first chapter I was… annoyed. I eventually just stopped reading for awhile, only to pick it up the next day and stop again, this time permanently.
Otto Von Trapezoid and the Empress of Thieves is classified as a comedy, so I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the author intended his book to be a parody of all other super bad villain books. I’ll just say that this book is geared towards a specific group of readers, and I think that the general bookish populace will find it unusual at the very least. But hey, maybe I’m an outlier and this will be a literary phenomenon to rival the popularity of Twilight and the Hunger Games.
