Stacking the Shelves: 3/7/19

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly (or in my case monthly) meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and it’s all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. You can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

Strife’s Bane by Evie Manieri

This was an unexpected surprise and unfortunately it’s the third book in a series I haven’t read! It looks like there was a 5 year gap between the publication of this and the previous book which must have been a terribly long wait for fans. Thanks to Tor for the finished copy.

Soulkeeper by David Dalglish

This was a book I’d been greatly looking forward to reading, so naturally I took it with me on a short trip a few weeks ago. It’s a 600 page book and I read it in two lengthy sittings. Can’t wait to share my review! Thanks to Orbit for the finished copy.

The Rage of Dragons by Evan Winter

Described as Game of Thrones meets Gladiator, this is definitely something I look forward to reading! Also, there are dragons. Many thanks to Orbit for the ARC!

Seven Blades in Black by Sam Sykes

A book so awesome I requested it twice. I feature the ebook last month, but I knew this was one I would want a physical copy of. I still loathe the cover but DANG THAT SYNOPSIS. Many thanks to Orbit for the finished copy!

Sixteen Ways to Defend a Walled City by KJ Parker

A besieged city and only one man could possibly save them… reminds me of Legend by David Gemmell. Here’s to hoping it comes close to being that awesome! Thanks to Orbit for the finished copy!

A Brightness Long Ago by Guy Gavriel Kay

New Guy Gavriel Kay. That’s really all that needs to be said other than thanks to Berkley for the eArc!

Magic for Liars by Sarah Gailey

I saw someone describe this as The Magicians meets Tana French, so that’s pretty cool. Also, I like the cover – very bright, eye catching, and weird. Thanks to Tor for the eARC.

Inspection by Josh Malerman

I must confess, this caught my eye right before the Bird Box craze went into full swing earlier this year. I knew it was going to be the HOT MASS APPEALING FICTION OF THE YEAR and the lovely folks at Del Rey kindly obliged my request for an eARC.

Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim

A girl challenged to make three impossible gowns. I mean, what could possibly go wrong, RIGHT? The idea of a fantasy sort of based around fashion was irresistible in the moment and now it sits in my Kindle queue calling to me! Many thanks to Knopf for the eARC.

Walking to Aldebaran by Adrian Tchaikovsky

This was a book (or rather novella) who’s existence was unknown to me until I actually checked my emails. Apparently I was neglecting good stuff and snagged an eARC from the Solaris reviewer newsletter. Also, it’s probably really awesome since it’s by Adrian Tchaikovsky.

My Purchases:

The Naturalist by Andrew Mayne

This is actually my current audiobook on play and it’s pretty good. I can’t wait to review this for you guys because my first impression was “NO STOP TALKING AND CALL A LAWYER, THAT’S WHAT R/LEGALADVICE SAYS TO DO”.

  1. Just a bit jealous of that Rage of Dragons arc. I’ve got Seven Blades and Sixteen Ways sitting on my shelf to read next. Excited about both. And…I agree on that cover.

  2. You definitely have some good books there! I’m excited to read practically all of those Orbit titles and I’m really excited to read Strife’s Bane! It’s been ages since I’ve read the first book of the series, but I’m stoked to read them all. I hope you enjoy them!
