Stacking the Shelves: 9/30/23

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly (or in my case monthly) meme hosted by Reading Reality and it’s all about sharing the books you’ve added to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. You can include books you buy in a physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts, and of course audiobooks and ebooks!

Received for Review:

I received two very exciting physical ARCs in the last months, both from Orbit Books! These Burning Stars by Bethany Jacobs is an exciting new space opera and Two Twisted Crowns by Rachel Gillig is the second book in a fantasy duology about a girl with a monster in her head.

The Frame-Up by Gwenda Bond
This is a contemporary romantic fantasy about a magical wielding art thief and forger who must team up with her mother’s old gang to steal a painting. It sounds quite fun!

The Parliament by Aimee Pokwatka
I’ve had my eye on this for a few months now thanks to that eye-catching cover with a giant evil owl on it! I love owls, so really my reason for snagging a copy of this is exactly that shallow.

That Time I Got Drunk and Saved A Demon by Kimberly Lemming
This might be a contender for “Longest Title” but I am definitely jumping on the fantasy romance bandwagon. I love the cover and I love a fun, spicy read!

Three Kinds of Lucky by Kim Harrison
While I haven’t read any of Kim Harrison’s other books, I think this is a great place to start. This is the start of a brand new series where magic is the norm and the main character gets drawn into some exciting magical research.

Saevus Corax Deals with the Dead by K.J. Parker
K.J. Parker thoroughly entertained me with the recently finished The Siege trilogy and I was glad to see another trilogy coming out so soon! And each book is releasing over the course of a mere three months – amazing!

Do Your Worst by Rosie Danan
I have another fun fantasy romance in the queue, this time about a curse breaker butting heads with a disgraced archaeologist. How does an archaeologist disgrace themselves – perhaps poor excavation skills? Anyway, it sounds very fun.

Many thanks to Orbit Books, Ace, Berkley, Tordotcom, and Del Rey Books for the eARCs!

My Purchases:

My long awaited copies of The Heroes and Red Country by Joe Abercrombie have arrived, along with a print from The Heroes and a print of a keyshan from R.J. Barker’s Tide Child trilogy. The Broken Binding has knocked it out of the park again, and I certainly don’t mind having to wait for printing errors to get corrected when the final product looks so good.
