Stacking the Shelves: 10/21/23

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly (or in my case monthly) meme hosted by Reading Reality and it’s all about sharing the books you’ve added to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. You can include books you buy in a physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts, and of course audiobooks and ebooks!

Received for Review:

Empire of the Damned by Jay Kristoff
Possibly *the* most exciting ARC I’ve received in this batch! I can’t believe I actually got one, and less than a week after I sent in the request! Can’t wait for more sweary Gabriel and Dior.

The Dragons of Deepwood Fen by Bradley P. Beaulieu
This is another highly anticipated release, but this time with dragons. I really enjoyed Beaulieu’s Song of the Shattered Sands series and can’t wait to see how this one begins.

The Darkness Before Them by Matthew Ward
I like a classic thief story where said thief gets drawn into big, world changing events.

The City of Stardust by Georgia Summers
I can’t wait to read this one! It has so many appealing elements, from family curses to a magical underworld, this is definitely one I want to read sooner rather than later.

Tonight, I Burn by Katharine J. Adams
Witches, romance, magical secrets — sign me up! I’m planning to read this soon, as it is a November release.

Two Twisted Crowns by Rachel Gillig
This was a much anticipated sequel and the final book in the Shepherd King duology. I liked it, and you can check out my review HERE!

Saevus Corax Deals with the Dead by K.J. Parker
Once again, I’ve already zipped right through this entertaining historical fantasy from K.J. Parker and you can check out my review HERE. By the way, it’s set in the same world as Sixteen Ways to Defend a Walled City!

Saevus Corax Captures the Castle by K.J. Parker
I kind of love when Orbit releases a whole trilogy over the course of three months. Perfect for binge reading about what ridiculousness Saevus Corax gets up to next.

Red River Seven by A.J. Ryan
I’ve loved so many of Anthony Ryan’s fantasy books and I’m very curious to see what he does with sci-fi/horror. I think this will be on my Sci-Fi Month TBR.

Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press, DAW, Orbit Books, and Redhook for the ARCs and finished copies!!

My Purchases:

I finally have some new subscription box books to show off after skipping some boxes recently! First off, I had my pre-orders of Lore Olympus Vol 5 and Curious Tides arrive. Next, The Broken Binding is doing special editions of one of my absolute favorite fantasy series of all time, starting with Promise of Blood! The Fairyloot October box also arrived, containing this stunning edition of The Hurricane Wars by Thea Guanzon.

The special editions of Promise of Blood and The Hurricane Wars are two of the most stunning I’ve seen. The naked hardcovers both have gorgeous wraparound designs, the sprayed edges have incredible detail, and the new endpapers are different front and back. The endpapers for The Hurricane Wars are extra special thanks to the added gold foiling, which is not something I see very often.
