Reading Firsts for 2024

This is fun tag that I first saw on Books, Bones & Buffy (thanks Tammy!) and it seemed like a perfect way to recap some of the awesome books I’ve already read this year. The original creator of the tag is girlxoxo.

First Book Read in 2024

I like to start the year off strong and always spend January 1 reading a good book. This year, I picked up The City of Stardust which was an amazing, magical portal fantasy that I gave 4.5 Stars! You can check out my review HERE.

First Review of 2024

My first review of 2024 was Mysteries of Thorn Manor, which is a cute novella that follows soon after the events of A Sorcery of Thorns.

First Debut Read in 2024

I’m cheating a bit because the first debut I read this year was actually City of Stardust but I didn’t want to feature the same book twice on this list. The Book of Doors was the second debut novel I read this year and it also happened to be an amazing portal fantasy story!

First New to Me Author of 2024

Morgan Stang is a completely new to me author, though this certainly isn’t Stang’s first book. Murder at Spindle Manor was a murder mystery reminiscent of Agatha Christie but with the added bonus of being in a fantasy world.

First Book of 2024 that Slayed Me

The title for this prompt cracks me up, but it’s fitting for how I felt about House of Flame and Shadow. The hype for this book was unbelievable amongst the fandom and I think for that alone, this deserves it’s place on this list. I haven’t been this excited about a book in years and it had me waking up far too early and staying up too late thanks to the  emotional turmoil it wrought.

First Book of 2024 that Made Me Wish I Could Get Back the Time Spent Reading It

Unfortunately, there were a few books that would have fit this category, but The Fury was the first book that left me truly disappointed this year. I expected more from it given the popularity of Alex Michaelides but The Fury only left me annoyed with the unreliable narrator of this sordid tale.

First 5 Star Book of 2024

Ending on a high note, we have my first 5 Star read of the year! The Trials of Empire was a spectacular conclusion to the Empire of the Wolf trilogy, which I would enthusiastically recommend to anyone who loves a good political fantasy with a healthy dash of cosmic horror thrown in for good measure.

  1. I’m so glad you did this tag! You’ve reminded me I still need to read The Book of Doors, and I wish I had started the Ruchard Swan series😁

  2. I’ve just been checking out this tag over at Tammy’s.
I’ve read a few off here – I think I’ll have to give it a shot and see how our answers compare.
