Stacking the Shelves: 4/27/24

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly (or in my case monthly) meme hosted by Reading Reality and it’s all about sharing the books you’ve added to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. You can include books you buy in a physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts, and of course audiobooks and ebooks!

Received for Review:

This month I have two lovely finished copies from Orbit – Relics of Ruin by Erin M. Evans and The Sword Unbound by Gareth Hanrahan. I also decided to explore the horror genre a bit and accepted a copy of Small Town Horror by Ronald Malfi from Titan Books, since I’ve been wanting to check out this author.

The Village Library Demon-Hunting Society by C.M. Waggoner
This is a cozy fantasy mystery (lots of buzzy words there) that sounds like a delightfully good time. A demon possessed cat, a series of unusual deaths, and a librarian that must turn sleuth – an interesting mix that doesn’t exactly sound cozy, but I’m here for it.

Bitter Waters by Vivian Shaw
I am So excited to be returning to the world of Greta Helsing! I loved the original three books and this is a standalone novella that follows Greta as she investigates who turned a child into a vampire.

An Instruction in Shadow by Benedict Jacka
This is the second book in Benedict Jacka’s newest series, Inheritance of Magic, and I can’t wait to check it out! The first book got me hooked on this author and I’ve already begun checking out his Alex Verus series.

Long Live Evil by Sarah Rees Brennan
This is literally the most fabulous cover ever. Who doesn’t love a good ‘woman in her villain era’ character arc?? I cannot wait to sit down and read this because I’ve heard its amazing.

Thanks to Ace and Orbit for the eARCs!

My Purchases:

I’m going to have to get out a framing square and a camera tripod to get an evenly arranged spread of books and a nice photo!

In the last month I of course picked up Christopher Ruocchio’s latest book, Disquiet Gods, because this series has gotten much more popular recently and I was afraid the hardcovers would sell out quickly! I also picked up the UK editions of The Book That Wouldn’t Burn and The Book That Broke the World by Mark Lawrence, again before the hardcover edition of the first book went out of print. These aren’t much different than the US editions – merely a slight color difference.

My long awaited March FairyLoot box arrived and within it was this spectacularly gorgeous edition of A Feather So Black by Lyra Selene, which I loved. The April book from The Broken Binding is a nice hardcover of The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch. This is one of my favorite fantasy series of all time (particularly the first two books) and I’m so happy to have it in hardcover!

    1. I’m actually so glad to hear that the second is better than the first! I like the first book… and almost passed on The Sword Unbound until I saw you posting about it!
