Wyrd & Wonder: Dragon’s Pass

At this point, I think most fantasy readers have heard of Fourth Wing and Eragon, so I’m going to share a few of my favorite dragon-centric books that are a little less well known.

The Summer Dragon by Todd Lockwood
Though Todd Lockwood is usually known for his artwork, he also released this delightful book back in 2016. It follows a girl named Maia as her life is changed by the appearance of the Summer Dragon and all the events that follow. Unfortunately, this was intended to be the first in the series but no other books have been released. You can check out my review HERE.

Novice Dragoneer by E.E. Knight
If you’re craving dragon school, but without the romance of Fourth Wing I’d highly recommend Novice Dragoneer. This was an excellent story with likable characters and a good deal of politics at the school and further afield. You can check my review HERE.

Infernal by Mark de Jager
Have you ever wanted a main character that ate humans and didn’t quite understand social niceties? Then Infernal is the book for you! This is definitely a spoiler, but the main character is in fact a shapeshifter that… you guessed it! Is actually a dragon! You can read my review HERE.

Of Blood and Fire by Ryan Cahill
This is one of the most popular self published fantasy series that I’ve come across in recent years and it has dragons! This is actually very reminiscent of Eragon, but written with an adult audience in mind. I haven’t finished the series, but enjoyed the first two books. You can ready my review HERE.

The Forever King by Ben Galley
Another self-published fantasy featuring dragons, though this time they aren’t quite as central. The main characters are all mages, but there’s a city filled with very intelligent talking dragons (they run things) and dragon scaled humanoids. You can check out my review HERE.
