Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Read or Avoided Because of the Hype

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly themed post first created by The Broke and the Bookish in 2010 and is now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s theme highlights the books you read or avoided because of the hype. I will usually pick up a book because of the hype (as long as it’s within my preferred genres) but occasionally I do avoid books because of what I’ve heard.

  • Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros — READ
  • A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas — READ
  • The Serpent & the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent — READ
  • Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman — READ
  • Of Blood and Fire by Ryan Cahill — READ
  • The Heiress by Rachel Hawkins — READ
  • Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney — READ
  • When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker — READ (Should have DNF’d)
  • The Sword of Kaigen by M.L. Wang – READ (DNF’d)
  • Colleen Hoover — AVOIDED

  1. I love this prompt! Usually the hype turns me off reading a book. I read Yellowface recently, but it took me ages to read anything by Taylor Jenkins Reid because the hype for her books was out of control 😅
