Top Ten Tuesday: Things I’d Like to Learn How to Do

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly themed post first created by The Broke and the Bookish in 2010 and is now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s theme is a non-bookish freebie, so I thought I’d give a little insight into what I find interesting and share some things I’d like to try or learn how to do. Not quite a hobby list, not a bucket list, but more of a list of things I’d do if I had unlimited time, resources, and better upper body strength.

  • Make croissants – I already love to cook and bake, but croissants seem like kind of an intense process so I haven’t tried to make them yet.
  • Stained glass – I’m in the process of trying this out actually! There’s a local shop that does classes and by the time this goes live I will have taken the class. If I like it, I might pick up the basic equipment for the hobby. Ultimately the goal would be to be able to make some windows for my house and some cool nerdy stuff.
  • Stone carving – I kind of got hooked on videos of old stonework restorations on Instagram and that is what inspired this. It would be so cool to make your own decorative stone pieces for a house or something. I don’t think I’m artistic enough to make a proper statue, but I could probably learn to do basic shapes or designs.
  • Make kombucha – This is another thing I’ll probably be trying soon. I have some friends who make their own and it doesn’t seem difficult. Also, kombucha expensive at the grocery store and I want to experiment with different tea bases.
  • Rock climbing – I simply haven’t the upper body strength for this yet. Gotta keep working out!
  • SCUBA diving – SCUBA seems like it would be such a cool experience! I’m honestly not sure if it would be something I would enjoy or if it would be terrifying BUT I want to see all the coral reef fishes.
  • Carpentry – I’m not sure if this is the right term exactly, but I’d like to learn to make my own furniture and make it actually look nice.
  • Sewing – I can do some basic sewing repairs and I can do embroidery, but I never learned to hand-sew or use a sewing machine to do anything more complicated than that. I’d even love to learn enough to tailor or make my own clothes.
  • Book binding – Have you ever seen the videos of people creating custom hardcover books? Yeah, that looks really cool. Realistically would I actually do this regularly? Nah, but it looks like it would be fun to try!

    1. There’s a scuba place locally that does do part of the training in a pool and I think the final portion is done in a lake, which happens to be rather murky and is rumored to be full of terrifyingly large catfish 😅
